Taste tested by independent jury
Axia's Miss Perfect elected tastiest tomato in Norway
This morning, Paul van de Mierop of Den Berk Delice was pleasantly surprised with a message from Norway. “We were informed by a customer that our Miss Perfect was elected tastiest tomato after a taste test in Norway. Naturally, that is great news for us. This test was widely reported on in one of the largest newspapers in Norway, Dagbladet.” The test showed that domestic, Norwegian tomatoes did not always score very high. Belgian and Dutch ones, on the other hand, did much better.
Miss Perfect belongs to the strain Axiany, of Axia Vegetable Seeds.
Search for perfect tomato
These cocktail tomatoes have been purchased by various Norwegian supermarkets. The jury wanted to test if they could find the perfect tomato. The independent jury that tasted the tomatoes included well-known Norwegian chef Knut Lake. The newspaper indicated that the best tomato, Miss Perfect, is also perfect in taste. “The only thing not perfect about this tomato is the price, which is about double the price of other tomatoes,” according to the jury.
Opportunities in Norway
Den Berk has been exporting tomatoes to Norway since earlier this year. “Approximately ten tonnes is now shipped to Norway weekly, but we see beautiful opportunities for growth in the coming months and years. Such a positive result in a Norwegian newspaper will probably also have a good influence here. We will soon launch a new luxurious packaging for the Norwegian market.”
Paul van de Mierop concludes, proudly: “Finally the work of us Belgians, who are always too modest, has resulted in an unexpected result, and we are incredibly proud of that. We are definitely going to use this in our communications, especially because our competitors are very worthy.”
