OS (IA): Nonprofit launches greenhouse to aid immigrant and refugee farmers

Lutheran Services in Iowa officially opened its new Global Greenhouse in Des Moines on Friday. It's part of the nonprofit's Global Greens program supporting immigrant and refugee farmers.

LSI said the greenhouse will expand economic opportunities and strengthen local food systems.

"What matters more is what happens inside. It's farmers planting trays early in the morning. Plants they've chosen, seeds they've saved, and varieties you can't find in stores. It's someone renting just a small amount of space at a price that finally makes it possible to start or to scale up," Zachary Couture with Lutheran Services in Iowa said.
