US (NY): Mushroom site becomes commercial indoor veg farm

The site of what was to become a large-scale indoor growing operation for maitake mushrooms in the Town of Mamakating, NY, is now destined to become an indoor commercial vegetable farm. Town Supervisor William Herrmann said Lex Heslin, owner of Beautiful Earth Group, a solar industry business, will develop the new enterprise at the former proposed mushroom location.

“He has gotten approvals to have an indoor vegetable growing facility powered with alternative mostly and the vehicles will be bringing fresh vegetables daily down to Manhattan in solar powered vehicles,” Herrmann said.

Four years ago, Heslin purchased the former Homowack Lodge property.
