DIY: maintenance and replacement of screens

With the new season about to go into full swing, prepping the screens for next year might be a good idea. Should the screen be replaced? The wire bed? The polyester wire guides? Cees van der Kaaij of Doekendraad provides tips.

According to Cees van der Kaaij, many tasks can be done personally. "The jobs are particularly suited to kill some time," he laughs. “Replacing the polyester wire now is advisable. A labour-intensive job, but with the right tools you should be able to do it." His company delivers supplies to those insisting on DIY: screen, polyester wire, pull tape, rope span. "And with free advice," he adds.

Polyester wire guides under the profile

Another DIY job is applying polyester wire guides under the profile. "The great advantage of this is that the polyester wires have no direct contact with the aluminium profile," Van der Kaaij explains. "Aluminium oxidises black and settles on the polyester wires, which in turn blackens your screen cloth. Especially if you intend to replace your screen cloth, this is recommended and a job that is very easy to do yourself."
