The German grower uses the retractable roof system to protect it's fully grown perennials from heavy winds and rains. As the existing 700m2 screen installation was experiencing severe troubles with heavy weather, grower Daniel Pfeiffer approached Novavert. "The major issue with the existing structure was that it was perfectly level, it was not built with a slope, structure-wise. That made it very hard to get rid of the rain", Niclas Heescher of Novavert explained. "The old structure suffered too much from the combination of heavy rain load and winds."

Heescher explained that lifting trusses and the wire bed in the middle of the house would have been too costly an option. "Instead of having the greenhouse builder put on extra steel, we designed a new horizontal wire bed for the HS² screening. We tailored the roof screen panels not rectangular but with a trapezoid shape: They are narrow in the middle of the house and wider at the end over the rain gutters. This creates some mild slope, enough to get rid of the rain when you use a smooth screening material."

Novavert installed the HSX200 ANTFIRE B1 screen; a 200µ PE-film with flame-retardant characteristics and high light transmission. All other components like the push-pull system and wire bed are from the Novavert standard range of products.

Grower Daniel Pfeiffer is happy with the new structure that is empty at the moment and ready to be filled with plants for the new season. "The new structure is built very cleverly and is stronger than the previous one. It opens and closes very smoothly with the flick of a switch; it takes only 5 minutes for the entire structure to open or close."

Novavert's Niclas Heescher is proud of this new installation and the diverse application range of the flexible HS² system. "Even with a horizontal structure and wire bed, HS² again solved a problem. On top of this, the grower is now using a screen that he preferred, because the widest range of materials that are available for HS² allows the grower to pick exactly the material he needs. The grower is not limited to choose from just a few materials."
The installation was commissioned by greenhouse builder Rabensteiner GmbH, together with the installation crew from Block.
