Ukraine sets National record for largest collection of exotic fruit plants

On April 5, in the village of Solonka near Lviv, Ukraine officially recorded the largest collection of tropical and subtropical fruit plants. The record was set by Tetiana Zahorodnyk, who cultivates over 800 varieties of exotic fruit plants in a custom-built greenhouse.

The National Register of Records of Ukraine confirmed the achievement, counting 844 individual varieties. Each plant was documented separately, even if similar types grew nearby, a requirement for setting the record.

What makes the project truly unique is its technological complexity. The greenhouse features soil heating, individualized irrigation, and microclimate control tailored to the needs of each plant. This innovative setup earned the record a place in the "Science and Technology" category, the most prestigious in the registry.

Tetiana began her journey nearly eight years ago, turning a spontaneous idea into a meticulously planned passion. Today, the greenhouse hosts over 2,000 exotic plants from around the world, including Italy, Spain, India, Indonesia, and Japan.

The collection features rare citrus varieties, sweet papayas, avocados, mangoes, and even pink-fleshed lemons and banana trees. Each plant is treated like an individual, with precise care for watering, nutrients, and light, making the greenhouse a one-of-a-kind botanical achievement in Ukraine.
