Horticoop invests in VitalFluid plasma technology

Horticoop is set to become a shareholder of VitalFluid. Using plasma technology to support plant nutrition and plant health, VitalFluid will deploy this investment to facilitate sustainable horticulture going forward. This is an objective that VitalFluid shares with Horticoop.

VitalFluid develops applications on the basis of plasma-activated water, which can be used as a sustainable source of nitrogen and also offers a natural alternative to chemical crop protection. VitalFluid technology is based on the naturally occurring effects of lightning. When lightning is discharged, nitrogen from the air is bound to water, which is subsequently used as a nutrient source by plants. VitalFluid has succeeded in simulating this natural process and has developed a machine that can produce plasma-activated water for use in greenhouses. Says Erik Hertel, CEO of VitalFluid: "The effects of the reactive oxygen and nitrogen compounds formed during the production of plasma-activated water are both cleansing and nutritious, so. VitalFluid has developed a nature-based solution to deliver natural nitrogen as a sustainable, liquid fertilizer for plants and crops. This is a significant step on the path to more sustainable agriculture and horticulture. In addition to its application as a fertilizer, plasma-activated water can also provide a natural alternative to chemical crop protection. Going forward, Horticoop's investment will help us enhance our technology and apply it on an even wider scale."

Investing in a sustainable future
Wilco Schoonderbeek, Investments Director at Horticoop: "On behalf of some 400 horticultural businesses, Horticoop invests actively in companies that are making a positive contribution to the future of the horticultural industry, and VitalFluid's innovation dovetails seamlessly with that aim. Thanks to the innovative technology of VitalFluid, growers will have access to more environmentally-friendly fertilizers and crop protection products, so we are delighted to add this company to our portfolio." In addition to Horticoop, the independent investment fund Innovation Industries also invests in VitalFluid.
