Protected cultivation is a key pillar for stable, high-quality production. However, vandalism is a frequent issue in this area. Deliberate damage to polytunnels, for example, is not uncommon and represents a significant financial burden for growers. This is a risk that businesses no longer have to bear alone. Gartenbau-Versicherung has expanded its portfolio and now offers technical insurance coverage for polytunnels.
"We expect that businesses producing in polytunnels will greatly welcome this new solution. Based on our practical experience, many of our members are dealing with vandalism-related issues," says Kai Schneider from the Product Management team at Gartenbau-Versicherung. Unauthorized access to facilities often leads to damage, ranging from minor incidents to large-scale destruction. "We have specifically taken such damage scenarios into account when designing this coverage," adds David Mittendorf, also from the Product Management team.

Insurance protection against vandalism and more
In addition to vandalism and sabotage, the new insurance policy also covers the breakdown of technical equipment, failure of measurement, control or safety systems, and external impacts such as lightning strikes affecting electronic components and replaceable units. This means that Gartenbau-Versicherung now offers a comprehensive, all-in-one solution for insuring polytunnel installations.
Businesses can now fully protect these valuable weather protection systems against hail, storm (including natural hazards), fire—and, most importantly, now also against technical risks.
"Incidentally, the crops themselves can be insured through solutions offered by Vereinigte Hagel, with whom we have been cooperating for over 30 years. Together, we provide optimal protection for protected cultivation in fruit, vegetable, and specialty crop production," summarizes Kai Schneider. "This allows us to offer businesses a truly holistic insurance concept for their weather protection systems," adds his colleague David Mittendorf.
