CABY-virus appears in cucumber greenhouse in southern Germany

A German cucumber grower from Bavaria has reported an infection in his greenhouse with the Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV). The German plant health institute Julius Kühn has announced.

The virus, previously known mainly from the Mediterranean countries, although it was already detected in France in 1992 and more recently for example also in the Czech Republic and Ukraine, could harm up to fifty percent of the crop in cucumbers .

Spreading does not take place directly, but through aphids such as the melon aphid (Aphis gossypii), the green peach aphid (Myzus persicae) and the striped potato aphid (Macrosiphum euphorbiae).
