Turkey: Greenhouses being built in Ordu for vegetable production

Ordu Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Guler informed the press that the works to build greenhouses as a part of the “Improving Greenhouse Production in Ordu” project has just started. Mayor Guler: “Our growers will mostly grow tomato, cucumber, green pepper, eggplant, lettuce, green onion, and parsley. The goal of the project is to diversify the agricultural products grown in the city and to fulfill the city’s potential with regards to agricultural production in order to create more sources of revenue for the residents of the city.

"The project is carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and we have just started building greenhouses as a part of the project. The greenhouses are mostly financed by our municipality and the growers are only responsible for 20% of the initial greenhouse investment costs. Right now we are building 30 greenhouses, each of them being 240 square meters in size and another 10 with 500 square meters in size. Our growers will first start with the production of the aforementioned vegetables but we will also explore cut flower production in these greenhouses in further stages of the project.”
