Canada's vibrant industry is rooting for success
If you were not able to experience it firsthand during last week's Greenhouse Conference: Canada is on its way to become a greenhouse superpower. Not only in Ontario, where construction in the Leamington and Niagara areas is in full swing, but also in provinces like Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia.

New vegetable nursery opens in Belarus
This week a completely new modern greenhouse project was commissioned in the northern Vitebsk region of Belarus. Situated in close proximity to the border with Russia, the 4.5 hectare vegetable greenhouse will soon be harvesting a large amount of greenhouse produce for shipment to both local and export.

Greenbalance: the first Dutch greenhouse with SmartGlass
The tomato plants are growing well in the new greenhouse of Dutch tomato grower Zwinkels at their Greenbalance location. "We planted in week 36 and the sixth truss is now blooming. One and a half truss a week," says Mark Zwinkels.

US (OH): BrightFarms set to break ground on 4th greenhouse
With consumer demand for local produce and value-added products at an all-time high, New York-based BrightFarms, Inc. is set to break ground on its fourth greenhouse this month. "We have emerged as the nation’s leading producer of locally grown salad greens as it continues to disrupt the incumbent salad industry."

Dutch police raids greenhouses in heroin investigation
A large heroin production facility has been discovered by Dutch police during a raid in the Westland and Oostland area. The heroin was produced at an automobile repair shop and several greenhouse companies were involved in the criminal activities.

The market for indoor cultivation systems is evolving fast, especially now that the regulated cultivation of medical marijuana in North America has come around the corner. Dutch horticulture consultancy firm AAB is therefore translating its expertise in high-end indoor horticulture cultivation

Austria: Flicker to supply Vienna with LED-grown mini cucumbers
As a result of urbanization and the increasing demand for housing space, the Austrian greenhouse industry that surrounds Vienna is getting a new boost. Existing farmers and operators of small scale greenhouses are receiving interesting offers to sell their properties.
