Home growers can soon grow veggies in a pot

Being fascinated with growing chili and edible plants, three friends from Stockholm, Sweden, set out to make a super simple way to grow things like chili, herbs or strawberries.

The result was Botanium, a vase-like automatic planter that marries state-of-the-art growing technology and elegant design. Botanium is a complete kit for growing a plant from a seed. Thanks to the soil-less medium, the plants grow faster with less maintenance. The project goes live on Kickstarter January 18th 2017.

Botanium is a hydroponic pot, which means it uses a porous growing medium instead of soil. This allows a very regular nutrient-rich watering, automatically controlled using a pump. This means that the plant can never be over or under watered, which is one of the most common ways people kill their plants.

Botanium takes the guesswork out of growing by automatically watering the plants everyday. As a user, all you need to do is to check the water level and refill when necessary. With a full tank, the water can last a month, depending on the plant and conditions.

Rasmus Tretow, Johannes Roselius and Mario Sanchez are three friends from Stockholm, Sweden who share an interest in technology, design and making great products. They have backgrounds in product development and industrial design and plan to make more urban gardening products in the time to come.

The goal of Botanium is to make inspiring, simple gardening products with the WOW factor that brings out the gardeners in people.

Pledges start at $39 - the first 100 Botaniums on Kickstarter are at a 50% discount. Retail price is approximately $79.
