Looking back at February 2016:

HortiDaily Tour, Solar greenhouse in Oman and Urban Crops kicks off

Besides of trade shows in Holland and Germany, February 2016 was also the month that we organized another edition of the HortiDaily High Tech Greenhouse Tour. A group consisting of more than 50 greenhouse growers, researchers, investors and vertical farmers joined us for two days, to visit some of the most innovative projects and growers in Holland.

Another 'hot topic' from February 2016, was the assignment for KUBO to build solar energy greenhouses for the oil industry in the desert of Oman. Once complete, the project (called Miraah, Arabic for mirror) will span a total of some 190 ha across the desert oilfield, making it the biggest solar project in the world.

February 2016 was also the month that Belgian start-up Urban Crops opened the largest automated plant factory in Europe. We visited the huge automated plant factory that is built as a climate chamber with a completely closed controllable environment; only a robot has access to the crates in which small seedlings are raised to fully grown crops.
