Much attention for Hazera's new Amastera TOV

Hazera has high expectations for their new coarse TOV tomato Amastera (HA 27430).

Geert van der Wel of Hazera: "Amastera’s yields are certainly in line with the current standard variety through week 35. We expect production to remain high at the end of the season as well. The crop looks good. This extremely high production is combined with a 4.1 Brix level, so we’re very positive."

Geert further describes that the fruits and the trusses are uniform and that the crop is mildew resistant. Amastera does best in unlit cultivation. During Hazera’s open day at the Improvement Centre in Bleiswijk last week there was plenty of interest for the newcomer.

HA 27429 is a second new variety that Hazera is presenting in the coarse TOV segment, although not commercially yet. However, there are trials going on. Geert: "This tomato has good red coloration. And the quality is good; no shrinkage cracks. The shelf life is good. It’s a compact plant." The Brix level of HA 27429 is 4.3.

This tomato is in the medium sized truss segment. The HA 27444 has good coloration, nice green parts and a Brix level of > 5. Trials are currently being held with this somewhat flatter, ribbed tomato.

HA 27482 is a loose tomato suitable for the Belgian market. The fruit weight is 150-160 grams. The trials will be held at the Belgian testing stations next year. The most striking aspect of this breed is the high production. This is well above the standard. The crop produces uniform, firm tomatoes and has a quick truss production.

In its breeding program Hazera focuses on three pillars: production, taste and quality. With the presentation of these tomatoes at the open days they seem to be putting their money where there mouth is. Marion Vissers: "We would really like feedback from trade and retail that we will be happy to work with."

Marjolein Hunck is a breeder of high-tech greenhouse vegetables at Hazera. Besides the coarse truss and medium sized truss breeds, snack tomatoes also have her attention.
