Finland: Robbe's Vertical Garden about to open its doors

On August 4, Robbe's Little Garden will open their first completely closed vertical farm for herbs and lettuce in Finland. In Robbe's Vertical Garden, herbs are grown in four layers and plants in six layers.

Robbe's Little Garden has built an automated growing system which moves through the growing-area and automatically increases the space between plants as they grow.

Netled Ltd has developed a unique watercooled LED-light that can be combined with a heat recovery system. Novarbo Ltd has developed a cooling and humidity control system that also makes reuse of the heat produced possible. The climate is controlled by a specially designed climate-computer for multi-layer-growing.

Robbe's Vertical Garden is going to work as a test area for urban growing techniques. This system enables local production of vegetables in very harsh climate conditions, and the growing system saves both energy and water compared to normal greenhouse production.
