'From Mix to Market – practical decisions that Grow Profits' is the theme for Hort Science Live (HSL) 2026. Now in its tenth year, this annual ICL event helps growers make informed, commercially driven production decisions.
"With a strong emphasis on measurable outcomes and practical application, HSL 2026 is set to deliver high-value insight for progressive growers looking to optimise performance and profitability across their operations," says ICL MarComs Manager Matthew Miller.
Taking place across two identical one-day events on 30 June and 1 July, HSL 2026 will be hosted at Coles Nurseries', near Leicester, in the East Midlands. As the UK's largest grower of trees and shrubs for the amenity and commercial markets, Coles provides the ideal backdrop for an event centered on real-world growing challenges and opportunities.
"ICL sets out to support the horticultural industry not just with innovative proven products, but best in class expertise and technical support," says Technical Manager, Andrew Wilson. "Our Technical Area Sales Managers – most of whom are skilled former growers – bring extensive, hands-on horticultural knowledge and experience to their roles. HSL is about sharing that expertise in a way that delivers real value on the nursery.
Modern nursery production is under growing pressure to balance rising costs with consistent, high-quality output, and this session series focuses on the key drivers shaping both performance and profitability. It looks ahead at emerging challenges and how growers can prepare for them, including the development of new biodegradable fertiliser coatings. Attention is also given to the financial side of production, asking whether growing media is contributing to profit or quietly eroding margins, alongside a closer look at ornamental nutrition and how to maximise its effectiveness. A strong emphasis is placed on control through measurement, exploring how data-driven decision making, accurate nutrition programmes and Dosatron calculations can improve outcomes. Practical efficiency is another theme, with strategies to advance weed control and enhance crop finish, including insights into ICL's award-winning pot topper and a live Javo demonstration. The programme also covers the role of biostimulants, explaining when and how to apply them for best results, with additional guest speaker sessions to be announced.
"Over the past decade, our highly practical HSL events and HS Masterclasses have become a firm fixture in the professional horticultural calendar," says Matthew. "HSL 2026 promises to be sharper, smarter and more commercial than ever. Focusing on the practical choices that influence plant consistency, labour efficiency, input costs and profit per pot, attendees can expect actionable insights to take straight back to their nurseries.
Alongside the technical programme, HSL 2026 provides opportunities for delegates to network, learn about bespoke fertiliser solutions from ICL's sister company GreenBest, and take a guided tour of Coles' Gaddesby site.
