On March 25th, the Syngenta Innovation Center in Aït Amira welcomed partners and growers for the Tomato Excellence Experience. This event was designed to go well beyond a simple technical visit by offering a complete exploration of the tomato value chain, from market to taste.

Understanding the market to anticipate better
The day began with a clear, structured analysis of the European tomato market. This perspective enabled participants to grasp current trends, distributors' expectations and the opportunities shaping demand. An essential basis for guiding agronomic and varietal decisions.

Immersive workshops to experience innovation up close
Participants then joined a series of small-group workshops, each dedicated to a strategic pillar of tomato performance:
- Resistance and breeding prospects
- Rootstock innovations
- Visits to greenhouses showcasing our latest genetics
- A tasting experience based around our baby plum tomatoes, sublimated by chef Myriam Ettahri into gastronomic creations illustrating the value of taste in product differentiation.
These workshops provided an opportunity for direct, practical and technical exchanges, enhancing understanding of the solutions proposed and their impact on the field.
The long-awaited return of the Caravan of Taste
Among the highlights, the return of the Caravan of Taste served as a reminder of an essential truth. Beyond agronomic performance, it is taste that creates consumer preference.
This sensory dimension reconnected the participants with the purpose of their work: to offer a tomato that is as appealing for its quality as for its taste experience.

Ongoing commitment in the face of challenges: successive generations of varieties
"Faced with the emergence of ToBRFV, we reacted quickly by launching our first range of resistant varieties: Prodelle, Baldomero, Sycibelle and Adorelle.
Today, we are entering a new phase with the launch of our second generation, led by Bonnelle and accompanied by new varieties that will soon be available: TIPM23-7777 and TIAM24-4004, combining enhanced resistance, productivity and premium quality.
And this is just the beginning: a third generation is already in the pipeline, confirming our commitment to remain at the forefront of innovation and to support our growers over the long term with varieties of excellence," explains Syngenta.
