WayBeyond has added the new Irrigation Forecast Dashboard to its FarmRoad platform. This helps growers to accurately forecast irrigation needs and optimize water usage, allowing them to implement more efficient and climate-resilient irrigation strategies.
Globally, around 70 percent of all freshwater withdrawals are used for agriculture. This puts pressure on farmers and growers to maximize the use of this increasingly scarce resource. With heat inflation and unpredictable weather patterns from climate change, water supplies, and crop production are disrupted, adding additional challenges for protected cropping growers.
Darryn Keiller, Founder and CEO of WayBeyond said: "As climate threats escalate, we are dedicated to supporting growers worldwide with digital tools to help water management. Our new Irrigation Forecast Dashboard is a comprehensive decision support tool, enabling protected cropping growers to optimize their irrigation practices and achieve the best crop yield outcomes."
The new irrigation feature includes hourly outdoor climate forecasts for temperature, radiation, and Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) for up to 48 hours ahead. The dashboard also provides daily weather and evapotranspiration forecasts up to 7 days ahead. Evapotranspiration combines evaporation and transpiration, measured to understand crop water requirements better. With this data, growers can identify the times of day when their crops need the most water and adjust irrigation accordingly.
The FarmRoad platform integrates with Spire, who provide AI-enhanced weather data, to provide local weather forecasts that are more reliable than generic weather apps. As part of its growing FarmRoad portfolio for protected cropping, WayBeyond's Irrigation Forecast Dashboard on FarmRoad gives growers a digital toolkit for irrigation management.
