First open day in 13 years leaves Agro Care hungry for more

Last week, North Holland hosted the 'Visit Companies Days.' This annual event offers local businesses the opportunity to open their doors to interested visitors. The aim is to educate the local community about the diversity of businesses in the area and to facilitate connections between job seekers and employers. Agro Care, one of the horticultural participants, reports on the day.

After not having an open day for 13 years, the large tomato grower decided to open Wagenpad 11 in Middenmeer to the public on Saturday, March 23. The goal was to open up to people interested in a position at the company, which Agro Care combined with opening up to family, friends, and local residents curious to see inside a greenhouse operation.

Housing
To give people a glimpse of the entire business process, a walking route was set up. In the processing area, visitors could see through a photo collage what the housing built by the company looks like inside. In these times of housing shortage, Agro Care believes it is important to provide high-quality housing to its workers and alleviate the pressure on the housing market in the northern tip of North Holland. Additionally, the weighing line was operational, and a robocar was demonstrated going through the loading and unloading process, allowing visitors to see the work process in action.

Tomato Sale for Charity
After passing through the processing room, people ended up in the corridor; ECW was, of course, here to explain more about the energy sources needed for greenhouse horticulture and how they, as Agriport, are trying to tackle this together as sustainably as possible. Alongside these companies, a stand was set up with information from Harvest House, and tomatoes were sold for charity. The beneficiary was Dailisay Recovery, a foundation that supports individuals with eating disorders and their families, offering a helping hand.

A Look Inside the Greenhouse
Before visitors could take a look inside the greenhouse, they were greeted with a delicious cup of tomato soup prepared by the Meerhoeve, made with Agro Care tomatoes, of course. Then, there was an explanation of the cultivation process; visitors could see what goes on in a bumblebee box, and they could enter a greenhouse specially opened for the day.

Finally, visitors were guided through the water room to the energy center. Here too, a wealth of new information was shared, and visitors came up with questions that were answered by our technical service team.

Visitors spent several hours engaged and absorbed a great deal of information and impressions. Agro Care received nothing but positive feedback and compliments on the good organization from those who returned. Looking back, there's a strong sense of satisfaction about the day. "We will definitely repeat this day in the future."
