Trinidad and Tobago: Presto takes hydroponics to schools nationwide

Following the delivery of its first Hydroponics Garden to the Arima Presbyterian Primary School in March, Presto Market installed a second system at the Arima Government Primary School on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Jean Luc Mouttet, Presto Market Business Development Manager, explained that the overwhelming response by teachers, students, and parents to the first hydroponics garden prompted them to commit to nine more installations at schools in the coming years.

To assist in this venture, Presto Market enlisted the assistance of co-sponsors represented by Christian Mouttet, Chairman, Agostini’s Ltd representing the Victor and Sally Mouttet Foundation, Dirk Marin, Chief Executive Officer for Super Cow Milk, Vemco alongside Presto Market’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Glenn Maharaj.

Camille Robinson-Regis, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, did double duty as the Member of Parliament for the Arouca/Maloney constituency. Minister Robinson-Regis revealed that “this initiative is in such close alignment with the intention of the Government to bring a greater sense of agricultural awareness and interest to the younger population.” Also in attendance, Lisa Morris-Julien, Minister in the Ministry of Education, hailed their partnership with Presto Market as “a testament to the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive the transformation needed in our educational institutions,” marking the hydroponics installation as a “remarkable milestone in this journey of educational innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability within the school system.”
