Producing according to the needs of foreign markets:

Fresh produce: only following the Italian tradition is limiting

Agriculture 4.0 is not only possible, but it is feasible in Sicily too, when most resources come directly from the sun, i.e., not only the long days and mild winter weather that make greenhouse cultivation the state of the art of Euromediterranean production but also the generation of energy from solar panels.

Photos of a company that focuses on sustainable productions, mainly tomatoes. It is self-sufficient when it comes to the production of electricity, which also constitutes a source of income.

Agroenergie takes advantage of these 'nature's gifts' for the production of high-quality strawberries and tomatoes. It boasts two metal greenhouses photovoltaic covers: a high-tech innovative one covering 4,400 sq m that can open thanks to sensors (Lualtek) and is used for strawberries, plus another one covering 10 thousand sq m for tomatoes, both soilless.

Then there are another 60 thousand sq m of a technological greenhouse not covered by the photovoltaic system (although they soon will be), and a further 25 thousand sq m which are currently being set up. They are used to produce mainly high-quality tomatoes (cherry and plum).

The company is looking for new commercial outlets in Italy and mainly abroad, where high-quality and environmental sustainability are considered qualifying elements for agriculture, also guaranteed from a phytosanitary point of view and with no compromises on flavor or shelf-life.

Cherry tomatoes, the company's leading production.

"We are looking for new commercial partners whom we can supply based on their needs. Unlike what is currently happening in Sicily, where production follows the indications of the domestic market following a traditional yet not always current know-how, we want to produce based on the indications coming in from abroad, starting with the varieties and field managing and ending with everything that can please our new interlocutors. We want to follow the Spanish method, which does not follow the local tradition but rather the indications of international outlet markets," reports company administrator Matteo Baglieri.

"For this reason too, we have recently taken part in Fruit Attraction in Spain, which was a very interesting first experience of an international fair for the fresh produce sector. We met up with foreign companies interested in commercializing our produce. We have had a very positive impression, the event was organized well with the involvement of all segments to support producers."
