Saving energy in the greenhouse with the AC foil program:

Creating an active climate with less energy

At VOF van Winden, Harry van Winden's company, they started using the anti-condensation foil (AC foil) from Oerlemans Plastics Horticulture for their cucumber cultivation this year.

The anti-condensation foil is used in the winter months as an extra screen to create a good climate for the new cultivation by trapping in the heat, which also helps in saving energy.

"We placed the foil in the greenhouse just before planting. In combination with the energy screen that we already had in place, the AC foil came to the rescue during the cold nights. In an average winter, we can easily save about 5 cubic meters of gas per week on the 28,000 m2 we have here," says Harry.

The foil provides a barrier that keeps the heat in and retains the condensation in a layer, something that regular foil does not do. This prevents moisture from dripping down onto the greenhouse. The foil can be custom-made for every greenhouse, roof length, and size. It can also be made with any perforation to create the most homogeneous climate possible for your greenhouse.

"It really helped us out this year in creating an active climate for the plants, and I will definitely be using it again next year," Harry concludes.
