New greenhouses covering 6000 sq m to grow Kiwi Plants

The new greenhouses of La Quercia Kiwi Plants, a company owned by Denis Magalotti, were completed a few weeks ago. They are located in Cesena, at the border with Cesenatico (Forlì-Cesena), and they cover 6000 sq m in addition to the over three existing hectares.

"It's a considerable investment, but it was essential for us to extend the protected crop surface with modern facilities. They were set up by Sottile srl in Cesena."

The greenhouses will be built in August 2023

As soon as they were completed, Magalotti immediately planted Hayward and Bounty, which, in 2024, will be mostly grafted with club varieties. "Having most of the nursery that is protected means final plants will be healthier, as they will not have had to deal with bad weather."

Greenhouses are completely automated - thanks to an electronic control unit with pre-set parameters, opening and closing are regulated to keep temperature, humidity, and wind protection monitored.

La Quercia covers 10 hectares in total, 6 of which are destined for the nursery for a proper rotation. "Our characteristic is that our whole nursery is in greenhouses, so the vegetable material is sheltered from the rain and hail during all phases, which helps prevent diseases."
