GLASE to host six-module short course for workforce training

Feedback requested from greenhouse growers for short course development

“We are calling to growers to help us define our short course and
ensure that we are creating the content that growers want to see,” says Erico Mattos, Executive Director of GLASE.

The Greenhouse Lighting and Systems Consortium (GLASE) is developing an online CEA Climate Control Short Course to empower the industry workforce and help greenhouses train their staff. The short course is expected to begin in early 2023.

The course content will be delivered through six two-hour modules covering the following subjects:

  • Lighting
  • Carbon dioxide enrichment
  • Temperature
  • Humidity and vapor pressure deficit
  • Irrigation
  • Data analysis

While the main topics and speakers have been selected, GLASE is now looking for input from CEA facilities to guide content development and ensure that the courses transfer knowledge that is truly applicable to a commercial CEA setting. To gather feedback from the industry, GLASE has created a five-minute survey for greenhouse growers and operators to identify their needs related to the six areas of focus.

The quick survey is available at this link.

GLASE Summit slated for early November
In a few weeks, GLASE will be hosting GLASE Summit 2022 in Ithaca, New York, at Cornell University. While GLASE members can access the event for free, the Summit is open to the public. So mark November 8th on your calendars and join the GLASE team in Ithaca if you can!

The GLASE Summit will bring together CEA experts, academics, and growers to discuss efficiency and sustainability in controlled environment agriculture. The Summit will consist of speakers, grower round tables, networking, and optional tours of the Cornell University research greenhouses.
