Shouguang, a city in North-East China, aims to be a national "vegetable basket". In the past few years, it has progressed strongly in terms of agricultural technology and digitization.
One greenhouse, for instance, covers an area of more than 2600 m2 and can be controlled completely from a distance. This smart system saves about 60% of labor. “It saves us a lot of time for plant protection, for instance. It used to take two or three hours to spray, but now I don’t need to worry about it. The automated equipment takes 30 minutes to finish it," the lead grower of the greenhouse said.
In recent years, Shouguang has started cooperations with more than 40 scientific research institutes, including China Agricultural University and Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry. There are 18 intelligent parks covering an area of over 1533 hectares. Vegetable greenhouses have been transformed into green workshops and vegetable farms have become green factories.
Liu Guang, Technical Leader of the High-Quality Demonstration Park in Gucheng Street, Shouguang, said: “All the crops in our smart hall are being watered and fertilized by this integrated water and fertilizer machine. The operation can be completed with one button.”
In addition, the park also collects information such as air temperature and humidity, radiation, carbon dioxide concentration, soil temperature, and humidity in agricultural production links through sensors distributed in each greenhouse. This data is transmitted to the cloud data management center in time. A cloud database is established through a specific algorithm to provide the park with an accurate basis for production management.
In recent years, Shouguang City has worked hard towards reshaping the agricultural industry chain with intelligent thinking and technological means, tailored the "Shouguang Vegetable Industry Internet Platform". At present, the application rate of the Internet of Things in Shouguang has reached more than 80%, and labor productivity is estimated to have doubled.
