"Shorter panels of silos easier to transport"

There has been a lot of talk about container transport in recent months. There are not enough available containers, with all the consequences that entails. One of those consequences is that overseas transport has become an expensive business. Empty space in the container is, more than ever, a thorn in the side of every exporter. "What about silos? The standard silos have a customary plate length of about 3 metres. The sheets are then pushed into the length of the containers. With the result that there is a lot of empty space left over."

Bas van der Elst from Hendic knows all about it and has a solution in house: "Our export silos have a panel length of 2.30m x 0.8m. We can therefore make our silo packages very compact and use the width of the containers. This results in significant savings in transport."

Recently, the company shipped 106 silos, of 102m³ water capacity, for a project in East Africa in this way. Bas: "We were able to send these 106 in 4 x 40-foot containers. Everything was neatly and safely packed in bundles of 2 complete silos. And just for the sake of completeness: One complete bundle consists of 2 steel silos, DelafleX 0.6 mm silo liner, wall and bottom felt, anti-algae cover and prefabricated feed-throughs. So by our method of transport we were able to send 26 full silos per container."
