Signify launches new LED toplights

"We mean to serve growers optimizing for yield and those optimizing for energy reduction"

Signify announces an expansion to its range of Philips GreenPower LED toplighting products, providing growers a new range for light-loving crops with the Philips GreenPower LED toplighting force. The company also updates its proven toplighting compact and toplighting linear product ranges with new products to improve efficacy, increase light output, boost functionality and control options. The products complement its existing LED lighting solutions and provide growers the tools to get the most from today’s horticultural market, optimizing growth predictability, improving crop quality and increasing yield.

“Before, growers usually wanted to reduce energy, so they chose LEDs to get the same amount of light they got with HPS,” said Udo van Slooten, Business Leader Horticulture at Signify. “Now they know as well that using more light will significantly increase yield. We mean to serve both types of growers: those optimizing for yield, and those optimizing for energy reduction. That’s why we’ve expanded our linear product range for optimal uniformity. It’s also why we’ve extended what our compact range can do and added a new range for light-loving crops.”

Providing maximum light all year round
The toplighting force is the ultimate LED grow system for light-loving crops. It creates summer conditions all year round, but without the heat dissipation of HPS systems. Growers can get up to 3600 µmol/s utilizing the existing plug power of 1040W. They can also use full power for a single light point, allowing HPS module replacement or maintenance of the same energy expenditure, even as light levels increase by 84% compared to newest generation HPS lights.

Toplighting force is available in two beam shapes: a wide beam that promotes uniformity for standard and high-wire greenhouses and a standard beam that offers optimal efficacy. When you want to generate the highest light level (photosynthetic photon flux) using the fewest grow lights possible, toplighting force is a smart LED investment, whether you’re replacing HPS lights on a 1:1 basis or building an installation from scratch.

Making switching to LED easy
The toplighting compact remains the go-to product for an easy 1:1 LED replacement of an existing HPS system. “This year we’ve made serious improvements to our toplighting compact range, with the goal of offering solutions for all customer needs,” Van Slooten said. “All our toplighting compact LED grow lights will now come in both a wide beam or standard beam so that we can cater to greenhouses of any height. We’re also offering dimming capacity. Using our GrowWise control system, as well as their own climate computers or greenhouse management systems, growers can dim lights to as little as 10% of maximum output. Dimming boosts light efficacy and lets greenhouses mimic sunrise and sunset. It’s also useful in response to high electricity prices. On top of all that, we’ve improved the efficacy of our modules up to 3.7 µmol/J to save overall energy costs. The range comes in 200-400V (520W) and 277-400V (645-800W) light recipes.”

Full flexibility for optimal uniformity
Toplighting linear is the product you’ll need when light uniformity is key. By installing the grow lights on a separate c-profile, it offers flexibility in mounting the lights at any position. The result is optimal vertical light distribution and horizontal uniformity in cases where crop heights are limited or lower light levels are required. Signify improved its current toplighting linear range by boosting efficacy to 3.5 μmol/J and by offering dimmable products that let growers set and adjust the light levels they need, when they need to.
