Clothing turns out to play an important role in the spread of various viruses in horticulture. Roland van Gulik: "The priority is still not enough with clothing". With his company XL Bedrijfskleding, he informs growers about the importance of a clean wardrobe.

Washing program
To make sure that clothing does not spread the virus, company clothing must be washed properly. You can do it yourself, or you hire someone. Roland: "Together with Christeyns, we have developed a washing program to remove all viruses from clothing."
Groen Agro Control has tested the clothing before and after washing. "Before the clothing was put in the washing machine, a virus was added. After washing, the clothing was tested again and, you already guessed it... the virus was gone."
Washing below 50 degrees
Roland: "When you want to kill a virus, you would expect to wash at 60 degrees. That is not the case." The washing program of XL Bedrijfskleding washes at 50 degrees. To make sure the virus is killed, the company adds the right dose of detergent. In combination with the right temperature, it works very well against viruses. Roland adds: "This is nothing new, because in Germany they've already been washing in this manner in hospitals for 50 years."
"Changing clothing is necessary"
"Too often we see that growers do not change clothing. It is important to have clean sets of clothing at the ready every day. That requires a lot of clothing, but changing clothing every day is absolutely essential to combat the virus." With this message, Roland informs the growers about the necessity. "As a grower, you have a lot on your mind, and clothing has a low priority, I understand. There is a lot of room for improvement. As a company, we have the mission to change that priority. A great challenge."
Greenhouse clothing
Besides a washing program, Roland also offers growers well-fitting clothing. This clothing is specially developed for employees in greenhouses. "The clothing is made from lighter material, and this is what distinguishes us. The material is also quick-drying, that is a must in the sector. The combination of these two factors provides for functional company clothing, suitable for employees in the greenhouse."
