Growers can fully automate the entire process from sowing to harvesting, thus producing a better and healthier end product with a higher yield. For this there are various hydroponic systems on the market, such as Mobile Gutter System (MGS), Deep Floating Technique (DFT) and Multilayer Systems.
Peter Rietveld of TTA explains. "Worldwide we notice an increasing demand for automation when it comes to vegetables. For example, transplanting and sorting young vegetables plants from tray to gutters or from tray to floats. By sorting plants fully automatically, the poorly developed or non-germinated plants are removed. This way of sorting also ensures that plants are no longer picked up by hand. We even go one step further by disinfecting the plant grippers before they come into contact with the plant. The result: consistent and healthy plants."
