Cristiana Furiani from Geofur: "We will present another product at Macfrut"

Fresh-cut radicchio conquers the foreign market

"After launching the high-quality fresh-cut radicchio range at Fruit Logistica in February, the product has received great feedback not only in Italy but also from foreign retailers and especially from Germany, northern Europe in general, and Dutch importers," reports Cristiana Furiani from Geofur while making an assessment on the first three months of "Radicchio d'Autore."

"Our product is not meant to enter into competition with historic fresh-cut companies, but rather to complete our range that goes from seeds to the tables of consumers. We specialize in radicchio and wanted to showcase this also with a ready product. Feedback has been positive."

The Radicchio d'Autore line is placed in flowpacked trays that showcase the quality of the product. Every packet weighs 150 grams. "We use some types of radicchio that I define as 'noble,' as they are chosen for their organoleptic qualities. We use only the best parts of the production."

Sales will continue until May and will then resume in the fall. "These first few months have been a sort of test: retail chains welcomed this new introduction, and it has been a preparatory period in view of the 2024/25 season."

When talking about the past season, Furiani does not hide the fact that there were a few difficulties. "Unfortunately, costs are high, and there was more waste than usual. Temperatures were high during the fall season, which affected production. Expenses, in general, are always high, coupled with lower yields. It is not easy to balance our accounts. What is more, the rain during transplants made it difficult to enter the fields, so I would say this year has been complicated."

Geofur will attend Macfrut as part of the La Grande Bellezza Italiana stand. "In Rimini, we will present a product with Radicchio di Verona Igp. Please come and see us at our stand in Hall B2 to see it."
