Strawberries, tomatoes and eggplants grown with the aeroponic system

"Our fruits and vegetables stand out not only due to the absence of nickel, histamine and other heavy metals, but also because of the possibility of letting our clients choose the cultivation technique they prefer. In fact, in addition to hydroponic cultivation, we grow strawberries, tomatoes and eggplants using a vertical aeroponic system on 4000 sq m in total," explains Ivan Santarcangelo who, together with Anna Cirigliano, manages FruitHydroSinni, a company in Policoro (Matera) with 10 years of experience specializing in the production and commercialization of fresh produce grown using the aeroponic and hydroponic techniques.

"Unlike the hydroponic system, the aeroponic system does not submerge roots in a nutritional substance. Plants are in fact suspended in an environment that is periodically sprayed with water and mineral substances. This way, they are better ventilated and oxygenated and grow quicker than with the traditional system, and with fewer health problems."

"In terms of quality, products have a uniform size and constant organoleptic qualities. At FruitHydroSinni, the aeroponic system is a much advanced cultivation technique that uses up to 95% less water."

"We are noticing that orders by both operators (B2B) and single consumers via our e-commerce section (B2C) are increasing. Tomatoes and strawberries are the most popular, although the latter are starting to perish quite quickly as the weather gets warmer. Riper strawberries are destined to the processing industry to make jams and extracts, everything strictly nickel and histamine-free."
