Dutch tomato breeder back after bankruptcy

The first interested parties already registered on May 1, when the bankruptcy of tomato breeding company Green4Health B.V. was declared, and now there is good news. The company is making a restart.

Negotiations with several interested parties have been completed. Arie van der Windt and Roel Huisman will operate the company from now on. They are well known in and familiar with the world of tomato breeding, as reported by PlasBossinade lawyers and notaries handling the bankruptcy.

New tomato varieties from Winschoten
Since 2013, the tomato breeding company Green4Health has been located in Winschoten. The company focuses on the innovation and development of new tomato varieties and includes a greenhouse for the propagation of tomato plants.

Green4Health focuses on cherry and cocktail tomatoes. The company is working with partners in Japan, Scandinavia, Spain and elsewhere to test the tomatoes in different climates.

New start
Huisman and Van der Windt are the driving forces behind the new start. They eventually reached an agreement with the trustee about a restart of the company. The company will continue to operate from Winschoten.

Part of the restart is maintaining employment in East Groningen. The four employees from the bankrupt company will be all taken over by the restart company.

Huisman and Van der Windt are no strangers to the tomato world. They have been involved with the Green4Health company for quite some time. Huisman will be responsible for the strategy and daily policy of the company. Van der Windt remains active as creative brain and breeder.

The new operators will be committed to the development of new tomatoes where taste, texture and quality are key. Growers with an interest in trials can register, Roel says.

By creating new tomato varieties, the entrepreneurs hope to enter the commercial tomato market and to distinguish themselves with the current assortment.
