Stepping Stones, a residential boys home in Wayne County has a new addition, a 1,200-square foot greenhouse. They point out that it is much more than a place to grow vegetables.
The young people of Stepping Stones will now be growing their own vegetables and learning how to cook healthy in the process.
"They are going to be learning skills. We're actually going to set up a social enterprise so that they can take what they don't give away to the market and learn how to run a business," said Susan Fry, Executive Director of Stepping Stones.
Also coming to Stepping Stones is Green Bronx Machine. It's based in New York City and is curriculum that incorporates other school subjects into growing vegetables.
"These young people are not only going to be growing hope and food but opportunity 365 days a year," said Stephen Ritz, Founder of Green Bronx Machine.
The goal is the start growing plants in the greenhouse by the end of the year and coincidentally that's about the same time when the tiny houses are expected to arrive at Stepping Stones.
