Netherlands: Subsidy for new training system

HortiTech, based in Naaldwijk, The Netherlands, is one of the five companies selected by the Westland municipality to receive a subsidy from ‘Subsidieregeling Kennis en Innovatie Westland’ (subsidy program for knowledge and innovation in Westland) to finance their innovative training system. The Westland municipality offers this subsidy to develop and stimulate knowledge and innovation development, focused on the Greenport cluster, surroundings, wellbeing and employment opportunities.

Pim, Peet and Perry van Adrichem of HortiTech

The training system, named MoniMenTal, is the result of a collaboration of HortiTech, InHolland, Kwekerij Wieringermeer, Axia, GreenMango IT services, Microsoft and Lentiz. The MoniMenTal program connects experienced growers (Mentors) to young, recently graduated growers-to-be (Monitors) and local growing talent. After a training period, conducted in the Netherlands, the Monitor and the talents move to the area where the greenhouse project is located. The Monitor stays there for 9 months, supported by the Mentor who operates from the Netherlands. After this period, the local talents are still being supported by the Mentor from a distance and by trainings and education in the Netherlands.

HortiTech was created by several horticultural specialists, including Peet van Adrichem, former director of Demokwekerij Westland, who was also involved in the realisation of the World Horti Center. The company focusses on cultivation support for greenhouses abroad and the development of complete Horti Centers. HortiTech is an independent company, but works closely with knowledge institutions and horticultural suppliers. For research and development purposes, the company also works together with World Horti Center.
