Andreas Helbig, Potato Kuhn Wholesale Market GmbH:

"Regional vegetables are well received, despite higher prices"

"We have been sourcing vegetables from Gärtnerei Kiemle in Bietigheim-Bissingen for just over a week, and this company supplies us with premium goods," says Andreas Helbig from potato company Kuhn Großmarkt, based in Mannheim. "Regarding the popularity of these products compared to foreign produce, we can not make any statements after such a short time."

"We wanted to try something new and decided to go with the Kiemle range, including cucumbers, aubergines and a variety of peppers and tomatoes. So far it's going well and we'll definitely be placing a follow-up order." In October they expect to switch to imported good from Spain.

In terms of price, the German product is more costly than its foreign counterpart: "Sometimes there is difference in price of up to 50%." But the quality speaks for itself. "The feedback on taste and compatibility is very good," the expert said.
