A third of all Dutch greenhouse growers use grow lighting. In addition, growers are open to invest. This is evident from the results of the annual round of calls by AgriDirect to compile their GlastuinbouwScanner (Greenhouse Horticulture Scanner).
In total, around 2,900 greenhouse growers were approached with questions about, among other things, business activities, future and investment plans at their company.
Grow lighting - differences per crop
In total, almost a third of the greenhouse growers use grow lighting in their greenhouses. At 39.8%, pot plant growers make the most use of grow lighting, followed by cut flower growers with 36.5%.
For greenhouse vegetable growers, 14.8% of companies have grow lighting. A relatively low percentage, but that can be explained. In the second crop after tomato, bell pepper, hardly any lighting is used and even in tomato, by far the largest crop, a large part of the cultivation is still unlighted.
Interest in LED lighting: increase compared to 2016
15.5% of greenhouse growers are interested in investing in LED lighting. 3.6% of these indicate that they are "very interested" in the purchase of LED lighting in the greenhouses. This is an increase compared to 2016. At that time, a total of 13% indicated that they were (very) interested in LED lighting.
