For many years, Alcomij has been producing steel crates for the storage and distribution of plastic packaging especially for the food industry. These multifunctional crates can be conveniently taken apart when not in use and when there is less storage and/or transport volume available. However, taking apart the existing crates and putting them back together again is a labour-intensive and therefore expensive process. So it’s time for a change.
Old features combined with new user standard
Alcomij’s foldable stacking crate is based on the wishes and requirements for food safety, permitted loads, health & safety and efficiency. A steel stacking crate that, like its predecessor, is hot-dip galvanised and can be divided into two layers by means of ‘stack racking’. But it is also a crate that is fully interchangeable with the existing steel crate, so that companies can gradually switch from the old crate to the new one.
While it was developing the crate Alcomij took due account of the requirements for permitted loads, health & safety and efficiency. For this reason, it fitted the foldable stacking crate with many smaller meshes that guarantee better and more balanced protection of the contents. But an extra collapsible head rack has also been added to the crate so that the user now can easily reach the ground on both sides of the crate. The smart locking system creates a fast and stable link between the top and side walls, while the smooth folding system means that this crate from Alcomij can easily be folded and unfolded by one person.
“The new foldable stacking crate was very positively received by the food industry”, says Martin Plaisier R&D Engineer at Alcomij. “And that’s because this crate fully complies with the NEN-EN-13626 standard and therefore also passes all the tests in the field of stacking, transport, collision, permitted loads, etc. with flying colours.”
“And the dimensions of the folded crate (1000x1000x370 mm) also make it attractive for industry,” continues Plaisier. “The warehouses can store the crates much more efficiently.”
