Stefano Hiwat account manager Central and East Asia

Hortilux expands its activities to Asia

The horticultural sector in Asia - namely in Central Asia – is developing rapidly. Because of this the need for grow light systems is increasing. Hortilux plans to actively support Asian entrepreneurs in this area: by offering tailor-made grow light solutions and by sharing their knowledge and expertise.

As the Area Sales Manager for Central and East Asia, Stefano Hiwat is Hortilux’s contact for the Asian entrepreneurs that are looking to optimize their revenue and efficiency with the help of grow lights.

For Stefano Hiwat, Asia is not an unknown area: when working at Hoogendoorn Growth Management – a big player in the world of horticultural automatization – he was responsible for the Russian market and the Central Asian horticultural market for years.

Since the start of September, Stefano uses this knowledge to distribute the grow light systems of Hortilux into the Central and East Asian market. Hortilux was barely active in this region till recently. “It is namely in countries like Kazakhstan that we can find many opportunities”, Stefano tells us. “The level of horticulture is already pretty high here and entrepreneurs really have a need for grow lights to elevate their business to a higher level. We also see possibilities in Uzbekistan, although the horticultural market is not that matured here yet. Lighting, however, can have great added value here, even though investors and entrepreneurs don’t fully realize this yet. We want to convince them of the necessity and added values that grow lights bring.”

Stefano doesn’t solely aim at Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan but is also exploring other options in East Asia. “Think of countries like China, Japan, Korea, and Malaysia.”

Investing in long term relationships
The brand new account manager emphasizes the fact that Hortilux aims to be more than just a supplier of grow light systems for the Asian entrepreneurs and investors. “The costumer and their needs take first place. We want to gain insights into the goals of the entrepreneur, both in their cultivation and company situation as well as in their market possibilities. Based on this information we come up with a lighting plan and develop a custom made grow light solution. We take a comprehensive approach to this; LED and HPS fixtures are combined, if desired, into one grow light installation. We also support entrepreneurs with the optimization of their grow light usage, by doing so we aim to help the Asian horticultural sector reach the next level.”

Stefano highlights, however, that Hortilux does not make these decisions without some careful deliberation. “We invest in long term relationships, aiming to win and maintain the trust of the entrepreneurs. This is of great importance especially in the Asian market.”
