Savéol: 5% increase in revenue thanks to “no pesticides”

Voted product of the year at the French food fair, Sial, thanks to its “pigeon-heart” variety, the line of tomatoes cultivated without pesticides by Savéol has turned out to be a major lever for the company’s development. “For the sector of tray tomatoes, this line represents 10% of the market share at our distributors, which exceeds the share taken by the Spanish organic tomatoes,” declares Pierre-Yves Jestin, president of Savéol.

In 2018, the cooperative from Brittany produced 81,000 tons of tomatoes and 2,200 tons of strawberries, posting a revenue of 198,000 euros [225,076 USD], for 2,500 jobs.

The company is proud of the fact that it uses insects instead of pesticides. Its 120 members are now engaged in the third way approach, halfway between organic and conventional.
