Veggie butchers should be called ‘vegetable craftsmen’

Traditional butchers are suggesting the term “butcher” should be reserved for those who exclusively work with meat. The call comes after Harrods announced its first “vegetable butcher” as part of its new Fresh Market Hall.

Keith Fisher, chief executive at the Institute of Meat, said he understands the merits of giving a greater platform to vegetables, but said he thinks they should be called ‘vegetable craftsmen’ instead, as the ‘name butcher belongs to meat’.
