US (SD): Hitchcock-Tulare FFA gets $10,000 grant for greenhouse project

The Hitchcock-Tulare FFA Chapter has received a $10,000 grant to put toward its hydroponics/greenhouse project. Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica) made the contribution as part of its celebration of the Farm Credit centennial.

In the fall of 2016, the Hitchcock-Tulare school will move into a new building with a state of the art agriculture lab. With the grant funds they will be able to include up-to-date horticulture and hydroponics equipment in the agriculture lab. With the new equipment the agriculture program will improve its horticulture, plant science, and food production program.

“The major long term goal of this project is to improve student learning opportunities through the expansion of the horticulture and plant science instruction through a revised curriculum, relevant student activities and a new hydroponics/greenhouse lab,” said Michel Brink, agriculture instructor at Hitchcock-Tulare High School. “For relevant, quality education, there is a need to complete a fully equipped lab in a timely manner.”
