Yellow cherry tomatoes look mouth watering, but until recently the taste did not always live up to expectations. But this is changing: with the new yellow cherry truss tomato SV0948TS, De Ruiter adds taste to a great look!
Three years ago, Seminis – De Ruiter’s counterpart in open field – introduced SV0948TS in the Spanish assortment. A year later, this variety was tested in glass houses throughout Northwest Europe, revealing that the surprisingly fresh, sweet taste of SV0948TS perfectly fits the expectations anticipated by the bright yellow colour.
Successes in retail
SV0948TS can be harvested both loose and as a truss. Due to this feature, the variety is already included as standard in the assortment of the two largest Swiss supermarkets in the segments loose, bunch and pick & mix. The best-known retailers in the UK and Germany have responded positively to this variety. The success of this yellow cherry truss tomato did not go unnoticed: growers and growers’ associations made an acreage available of over four hectares in the Benelux.
The bulk of the production of SV0948TS in Northwest Europe is already programmed for end customers. Fortunately, some commercial product is still available for growers to sell or to sampling to their contacts.

By now, SV0948TS is well known with this name, although De Ruiter acknowledges that this may not be the most appealing. However, experience shows that excellent chain partners are able to develop their own trademark or communicate it to retailers through a private label.
