Cleaning and disinfecting greenhouse floors without chemicals

Hopmans Verhuur in Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands has developed a new machine to clean and disinfect ebb and flood floors with boiling hot water. The hot water (with a constant temperature of 100ᴼC) comes from a special mobile boiler. It does away with algae, mosses, bacteria and viruses.

"We can now disinfect floors of concrete or soil and anti-root cloth without chemicals and in a sustainable way," says Toon Hopmans. The boiling hot water technology is patented. The boiling hot water flows from the floor cleaner under a pressure of up to 150 bar. The sudden expansion turns the water into steam, allowing for the proper cleaning of floors and surfaces.

Mobile cloth cleaner

Five years ago, Hopmans developed a mobile cloth cleaner using the same technique. "The big advantage is that fabrics remain on the lot. Transportation is no longer necessary and the grower always retains his own cloths. To obtain optimum cleaning of cloths, the machine comes with one of our own experts," Hopmans says. Depending on the degree of contamination and the length of the cloths, the capacity of the cleaner is somewhere between 1000 and 1400 meters per hour.
