US (VA): Dublin greenhouse celebrates grand opening

A major economic development project in the New River Valley is now bearing fruit. Red Sun Farms is producing tomatoes in its state-of-the-art greenhouse in Dublin.

Phase one of the project covers 18 acres, with 180-thousand plants. Monday afternoon, Governor Terry McAuliffe toured the facility, and joined leaders for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening.

Jay Abbott is Director of Operations. "Today is a big deal," Abbott told WDBJ7. "Today is really the culmination of about 15 or 16 months of hard work and slogging around in mud and ice and everything, working in snow to produce really a celebration."

Tomatoes grown at the facility are sold in Virginia and neighbouring states.

Red Sun Farms will eventually employ more than 200 people in Dublin.
