Japanese to develop “smart” agriculture in Russian Sakhalin
Japanese guests have come up with the innovative offers to the Minister of Agriculture, Trade and Food of the Sakhalin region Nikolay Borisov. They are keen to participate in the upcoming reconstruction of the Sakhalin greenhouse complex “Teplichny” and to introduce their “smart technologies” into the industry.
JFE Engineering has a vast experience in greenhouse agriculture, e.g. last year, the company started to grow eight varieties of tomatoes and green vegetables. It is to note that for their production a gas engine is used, which saves energy resources and money.
The technology based on gas energy allows the plants to receive all required for photosynthesis elements, and the company's management to gain profit. We plan to harvest up to 150 MT of tomatoes and 115 MT of lettuce per year. Compared to the open field yields, the rates are almost three times higher. This technology is believed to be suitable for Sakhalin, because the region is rich in gas, - has said the executive director of JFE Engineering Yamakawa Toshihide.
