As many a grower will tell you, starting a new crop in a clean greenhouse is of vital importance. Here are 10 tips by Benfried:
Tip 1 Against spider mites and whitefly
Use Oberon on time and repeat the procedure several times. Contact with the agent is important, so use enough water.
Tip 2 Against persistent whitefly
The plant is not active any more. Thus, dripping is probably not an option. Vertimec + Plenum+Agral Gold works great in a 3x every 5 days schedule.
Tip 3 Too late to apply Tip 1 and Tip 2?
Use Decis in combination with tip 4.
Tip 4 Against Trips
Use Admire plus Multi Fructose. Customize this 3x to every 5 days.
Tip 5 Increase your success rate?
Use enough water so that the contact agents remain effective.
Tip 6 Antipollution in drip system.
Use Sodium hypochlorite or nitric acid. Hydrogen peroxide and nitric acid can enter the system in a single treatment. Sodium hypochlorite and nitric cannot. Therefore, flush out the system thoroughly in order to wash away the dirt.
Tip 7 Cleaning the glass
Use Flusol-Fort in an empty greenhouse, this has a vapour effect. Be sure not to let it dry, but spray liberally with water. Using GS4 or Ecoforte? Then consider Topcleaner (very reasonably priced).
Tip 8 Against organic contaminants such as bacteria, fungi and viruses.
Use Hyperox. Use sufficient spray liquid so it can do its work. Use clean water afterwards. Hyperox can compete with both Jet 5 and Mennoclean.
Tip 9 Against specific bacteria and viruses.
Use Virkon S. The best disinfectant by far. Do not let it dry too quickly, and hose it down with clean water. The product is resistant to organic pollution. As a result, the duration is much better.
Tip 10 Against overall contamination on the glass.
Many fungi come from the substrate (fusarium and Phytophthora). Full-field covering with foil is important, partly because foil creates a drier climate in the greenhouse.
