The Swiss strawberry harvest began recently. During the peak harvest season from May 18 to June 14, approximately 1,000 tons per week are expected. The Schweizer Obstverband (Swiss Fruit Association) anticipates another good harvest this year, totaling 7,500 tons.
The current condition of strawberry crops is good across all regions of Switzerland. The cold spells so far have been well weathered thanks to protective measures. The cold spell before Easter resulted in only isolated instances of minor frost damage. The Swiss strawberry season kicked off in the week of April 20 with 24 tons. The strawberries harvested so far are of very good quality.
Under current weather conditions, the harvest volume will rise rapidly in the coming weeks. During the main harvest season from May 18 to June 14, Swiss strawberry growers will harvest 900 to 1,100 tons per week. The Schweizer Obstverband expects a total harvest of around 7,500 tons. That is three percent more than the average over the past five years.

Cultivated area growing
Swiss strawberries are popular with consumers. The area under cultivation also increased in 2026, by two percent compared to the previous year. Most strawberries are grown in the canton of Bern, the Thurgau/Schaffhausen region, and the canton of Zurich. An increasing number of strawberries are being grown under weather protection. This allows for an earlier harvest, a well-spaced harvest schedule, and high quality.
