Spanish courgettes have dominated European Union markets for the past two decades, reaching a new historical high in exports to the EU bloc in 2025, according to a report prepared by Hortoinfo using data from Euroestacom (ICEX-Eurostat) based on the TARIC tariff code 07099310.
In 2025, EU courgette sales by all supplier countries totaled 498.82 million kilograms, marking an 82.5% increase from 2006, when 273.33 million kilograms were sold. The market's value reached 573 million euros, with an average price of 1.15 euros per kilogram, up from 244.77 million euros twenty years prior, when the average price was 0.9 euros per kilogram.
Spain continues to be the EU's top supplier of courgettes, selling 331.34 million kilos in 2025, which accounts for 66.42% of the total. This amount reflects an 89.5% rise from 2006, when exports were 174.85 million kilos.
Morocco ranks second, but its market share has been declining since 2022. In 2025, it exported 31.2 million kilos, accounting for 6.25% of the total, which is a 25.23% drop from the 41.72 million kilos exported in 2006.
Germany ranked as the third-largest supplier, marketing 28.36 million kilos in 2025, accounting for 5.69% of the total. This marks a significant increase of 685.19% from the 3.61 million kilos recorded in 2006.
The Netherlands ranked fourth with 23.56 million kilos sold in 2025, accounting for 4.72% of the total and 65.07% more than twenty years earlier. Turkey closes the top five with 21.49 million kilos, 4.31% of the total, after more than quadrupling its sales compared to 2006, when it exported four million kilos.
Spain also ranks first by export value, with 380.57 million euros in 2025, an increase of 229.72 million euros from 2006. The average price of Spanish produce has risen to 1.15 euros per kilo, up from 0.86 euros per kilo twenty years ago.
Germany ranks second by revenue, with €39.26 million in 2025 and an average price of €1.38/kilo, well above the €3.18 million recorded in 2006. The Netherlands ranks third with €32.32 million, up from €17.99 million two decades earlier, with average prices of €1.37/kilo in 2025 and €1.26/kilo in 2006.
Morocco ranks fourth, with €28.45 million in 2025, a decrease from €36.64 million in 2006. The average price remains nearly stable at €0.91 per kilo in 2025, compared to €0.88 in 2006. Meanwhile, Turkey is projected to earn €19.77 million in 2025, with an average price of €0.92 per kilo, significantly higher than the €2.41 million and €0.60 per kilo recorded two decades earlier.
