"We currently estimate the total damage to be in the high six figures"

Flooding in southern Germany involves greenhouses

The recent heavy rainfall has hit the south of Germany particularly hard, leading to significant flooding. Where water levels are gradually receding, a trail of devastation remains. Numerous horticultural businesses in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have been partially severely affected.

Access and parking of this greenhouse are completely destroyed.

Currently, risk advisors from the Horticultural Insurance are on-site to assess the situation. They are supported by colleagues from neighboring regions and the claims department in Wiesbaden. Due to the ongoing danger, however, not all affected businesses have been visited yet, making a precise assessment of the overall situation currently difficult. Moreover, the final tally cannot yet be made.

"We currently estimate the total damage at a high six-figure sum, possibly even beyond," cautiously predicts Christian Senft, CEO of Gartenbau-Versicherung. "Our top priority at the moment is close contact with the affected businesses to support them as best we can," says Senft. "Therefore, where possible and necessary, we have already made initial advance payments to secure the businesses' liquidity."

Check insurance coverage
Gartenbau-Versicherung urgently advises its members to review their insurance coverage in a timely manner together with their responsible risk advisor. This is especially true regarding the amount of insurance sums due to rising prices. Damage caused by floods and heavy rain can be covered by a storm insurance, which also includes protection against other elemental damages, as well as by multi-risk insurance for outdoor crops.
