As expected, prices collapsed this week in the face of increasing tomato supply and "virtually non-existent" consumption. According to a professional of the tomato sector in the west of France, "the market is very low for the season. Prices for our entire range of tomatoes collapsed this week."
The clouds and cool temperatures for the season are "the main reason for this lack of consumption. The end of the month is not helping either. This week has been particularly difficult at the retail level. All our clients still have stocks, which has obviously had an impact on prices, despite the good quality of our products."
The end of May was complicated, but the start of June leaves room for hope. "The weather is expected to change next week, with temperatures forecast to be around 25°C. We are therefore hoping that consumption will pick up again and that the market will recover."
